Work Authorization

Work authorization is a crucial aspect of the immigration process that allows individuals to legally work in the United States. Non-U.S. citizens, including lawful permanent residents (green card holders), refugees, and certain visa holders, may need to obtain work authorization to be eligible for employment. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is responsible for granting work authorization to eligible individuals.

To apply for work authorization, individuals typically need to file Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, along with supporting documents and the required fee. Eligibility criteria vary depending on the individual’s immigration status and circumstances. Once approved, the work authorization card, also known as an Employment Authorization Document (EAD), allows the individual to legally work for a specified period of time in the United States. It is important to note that work authorization may need to be renewed periodically, and it is essential to maintain valid authorization throughout one’s employment in the country.
